Architectural Designer, Stanley Bragg Architects

Built a natural, low-impact Passive House Plus home using EcoCocon wall panels for a young family in the UK. The clients had been offered a “kit” version of Old Holloway, a bio-based home by George Mikurcik, and the challenge was to adapt it to suit the site, procurement limitations, and the family’s vision without compromising performance.

“Tomás and the Mosart team’s practical, real-world approach to teaching gave me the confidence to deliver not only our first Passivhaus project but also a bio-based Passivhaus Plus home using EcoCocon wall panels. The CPHD qualification was essential in building the expertise needed to earn the client’s trust and steer the project towards certification. And I know it’s often said, but Tomás' energy during the course really stuck with me – he was absolutely fantastic.”

Delivered the Moville Passive House project, balancing architectural ambition with the stringent performance requirements of the Passivhaus standard. The challenge was to integrate airtightness, thermal bridging solutions, and high-performance detailing while ensuring the home retained its design intent and comfort for the occupants.

“Undertaking the Certified Passive House Designer (CPHD) course was a transformative experience that provided both the theoretical foundation and practical tools to deliver the Moville Passive House project. The course deepened my understanding of the principles of fabric-first design, airtightness, thermal bridging, and energy modelling, which proved invaluable during the early design and planning stages. I gained practical skills in using PHPP (Passive House Planning Package), enabling us to test design options, accurately predict energy performance, and make informed decisions on insulation, glazing, orientation, and ventilation. This not only helped us achieve certification-level performance but also ensured that we could balance architectural ambition with the stringent requirements of Passivhaus standards. Beyond the technical knowledge, the CPHD course reinforced the importance of integrated teamwork and early design input. This learning directly shaped how we collaborated with architects, engineers, and suppliers to achieve both aesthetic excellence and uncompromising energy efficiency. Overall, the CPHD course has been an outstanding learning journey—shaping my professional approach to sustainable construction, and giving me the expertise to guide projects like Moville Passive House from concept through to delivery with confidence.”

“Taking the Certified Passive House Designer course was a highly valuable experience. It provided a solid foundation in passive design principles and gave me the tools to approach energy-efficient building with much greater confidence. One of the key benefits was the clarity it brought to complex topics like thermal bridging and airtightness. The course helped me identify areas for further development. Overall, it’s been a major step forward in my professional growth and has inspired me to pursue more advanced passive house work.”

“Specific benefits gained is that I brushed up on some core building physics principles as well as a new-found appreciation of the energy and comfort benefits that are possible when implementing a well informed and holistic design approach coupled with quality construction execution as prescribed by Passive House. A challenge overcame is my understanding of thermal bridges - this is a subject that I have not come across in my career before and the course provided a good explanation of what they are and the foundation principles on how to calculate them.”

“Taking the CPHD course with Mosart was a turning point in my career. The mix of technical depth and practical application gave me the confidence to tackle my first Passivhaus project and deliver it to certification. What stood out most was how supportive and approachable the team were throughout the learning process. It’s not just a course, it’s a community that stays with you long after the exam.”
